Day 1 Travelling by jeep from Barcelona we head towards the mountains, stopping along the way for a day trek at the Mont-rebei Canyon. At almost 500m, this spectacular trail has been carved into the rock of the Montsec mountains by the Noguera Ribagorçana River, making this a wonderful mix of risk and adventure. In the evening we will continue to the low Pyrenees where we will spend our first night
Day 2 The day will begin with a visit to one of the romantic castle ruins, nestled in the Pyrenees. Later we will visit the beautiful Ordesa National Park for a day trek. Ordesa is the oldest nature reserve in Spain and presents magnificent glacial valleys, river gorges and impressive waterfalls. Accommodation in the town of Escalona.
Day 3 On this day our journey passes by Plan and then over the mountain range to Aneto. The route weaves through beautiful alpine forests before reaching the highest point in the Pyrenees. We will stop at the Aneto viewpoint for a picnic which, at over 2000m, will give you the most breathtaking view of the mountains. From here we descend to the Val d’Aran for our evening meal and accommodation.
Day 4 This day will be spent exploring the Val d’Aran. Val d’Aran is famous for it’s ski but during warmer months it boasts some of the most beautiful treks in the area. It’s cloud scraping mountains, cascading valleys and charming villages makes it a really unique place to experience.
Day 5 We head into the heart of Catalonia, following the old smugglers road “Camino da Liberated”. This path was historically used as an escape route for the Catalans during the Franco era but is now lined with beautiful forest and wild horses and carries you to the hidden village of Montgarri. Our journey will reveal some of the most enchanting of the Pyrenean valleys along the way.
Day 6 In the morning you will have the opportunity for rafting on the Noguera Pallaresa river, rated as one of the best rafting experiences in Europe due to its incredible alpine views. The afternoon will be spent in the Aigüestortes National Park. The route around Aigüestortes’ mountain lakes takes you through hidden forests and engaging meadows, all set in with a background drop of the snow-capped Pyrenees. The evening accommodation will be spent in this beautiful valley.
Day 7 On our final day we leave the mountains and return to Barcelona. The day can spent visiting this wonderful city’s most iconic sites. Barcelona’s architecture spans from its ancient city walls to Gaudi’s impressive Sagrada Família church. You can tour the medieval streets of the Gothic Quarter, bask in the sun on one of the beaches and enjoy the abundance of wine and incredible tapas in one of the many first-rate restaurants before your flight home.
