Day 1 After arriving at Bucharest airport, we meet together and head to the Carpathian Mountains. By jeep, we will climb an altitude of 2000m to the south of the Carpathian range at the Bucegi Mountains, located between Transylvania and Wallachia. Here we will stop for a short trek. The mountain range has been carved through by the Prahova River, creating an impressive valley containing karst caves, forest landscapes and beautiful rock formations. From here we will continue to the town of Sinaia, where you will have the opportunity to explore the 19th Century Peleș Castle. It’s an impressive structure, replicating Germain renaissance architecture and decorated with incredible ornaments from all over the world. Inside you will see Murano crystal chandeliers, a music room carved entirely by Teak, ceilings made from Turkish silk embroideries and a theatre room decorated by Gustav Klimt.

Day 2 We continue north through the Carpathians, a journey woven through traditional villages, heavy forests and wonderful alpine vistas, before stopping in Brașov. Brașov is a city that’s mixes modern city life with Romania’s beautiful city charm, set in a backdrop of spectacular mountain scenery. We’ll use a cable car from here to climb to Mount Tâmpa where you can enjoy impressive views of the city. The evening will be spent in Poiana Brașov ski resort for dinner and accommodation.

Day 3 This day will be spent discovering the Piatra Craiuli National Park, arguably the most beautiful protected area in the Carpathian range. Bordered by glacial lakes, the massif contains striking limestone structures, caves and gorges and boasts one of the highest ridges in the country. The mountain opens into a steep valley that descends towards beautiful meadows and picturesque villages. We will visit these and eat a home-cooked meal with our hosts in the village of Pestera. Later, we will go to Bram Castle to explore the home and legend of Dracula. The castle is magnificent and beautiful, steeped heavily in historical accuracy and myth.

Day 4 On this day we will visit the best sights of Transalvania and will begin with the handsome Saxon village of Viscri. This tiny village has become one of the most important tourist destinations in Romania due to its fairy tale image, perfectly preserved from the 12th Century. Traditional blacksmiths, horse-and carts and beautiful architecture are all contained here for you to experience. In the heart of the village is an incredible fortified church, recognised by UNESCO as one of the most important structures in Romania.  There is also delicious food to be tried; we can enjoy an organic, home-grown, home-cooked meal prepared by the locals before leaving for Sighișoara for the evening

Day 5 We begin the day in Sighișoara, a beautiful medieval town of cobbled roads and pastel houses surrounded by a fortified wall. It’s not difficult to waste a few hours here in the pretty cafes and crafts shops, or by exploring the town and its striking architecture. Continuing towards Păstrăvăria Albota, our journey takes us through dense oak forests, inhabiting a wonderful population of plants and wildlife. It’s common to see bears here but if you’re lucky you may sight a lynx or a wolf too. We will stop along our journey at some of the local attractions before resting for the evening in a family hotel.

Day 6 Continuing our expedition through the Carpathian range, we drive over the Transfăgărășan where you will experience the picturesque mountain landscape and alpine meadows.  There are some truly breathtaking places along the way, such Vidraru Lake, where our road passes over it’s dam. At the highest point of the Transfăgărășan we’ll stop at Balea Lake, a beautiful glacial lake and home to Europe’s first ice hotel. We continue from here to Curtea de Argeș, a charming city that holds Romania’s oldest monuments and a very special cathedral. We finish the day in Bucharest for dinner and accommodation.

Day 7 Our final day will be spent in Bucharest, Romania’s capital. Bucharest has an interesting mix of sights and architecture due to its communist past. However, it still holds the elegance and charm that rivals other capitals and there’s a huge amount to do. Just walking through the city you’ll see a real blend of influences such as the 17th Century Orthodox churches, the very communist Palace of Parliament and little pockets of art nouveau housing. The Caru’ cu Bere is the Old Town’s most famous beer hall and although its a tourist-spot the beer is very cheap and it’s a hugely enjoyable place.  There are many green spots to relax in, particularly the Cismigiu Gardens or you can enjoy the trendy cafes and shopping areas. Look out for the Carturesti Carusel, one of the most impressive bookshops in Europe. Flights home in the evening.

Join us for an adventure in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt places in the world. Steeped in history and fascinating culture, this seven day jeep tour will allow you to explore this wonderful country and the spectacular scenery of the Carpathian Mountains. You will visit Saxon villages, completely unchanged for hundreds of years; stay in traditional wooden houses and eat delicious local cuisine. Romania’s landscape has been protected and allowed to flourish so is rich in diverse plants and wildlife. This offers a glimpse of how ancient England would have looked, where wolves and bears still roam in the forests. This beautiful country presents countless architectural treasures that are waiting to be explored, including the the home of Bram Stoker’s Dracula himself.
